Shade is a young Silverwing bat, the runt of the litter. His reckless attempts to prove himself the equal of his peers unwittingly put his entire colony in peril. On his journey to redeem himself, accompanied by Marina, an exiled Brightwing Bat, Shade discovers he must confront his deepest fears and tap hidden reserves of courage and ingenuity to save his colony from extinction.
